~ Weekend highlights…

Aqueduct already reset their post for Saturday to 12:20pm. Check our Facebook page “ Interbets-Catskill OTB ” and Twitter feed “ @Interbets OTBCatskll ” as soon as we hear of any of changes now that they have cancelled racing today (Fri, Feb 5).

This Saturday Gulfstream and Delta Downs both have early posts for their big day!  At Gulfstream there’s a 12 noon post and $1,250,000 worth of stakes. Four of the six stakes are graded highlighted by the grade 1 $500,000 Donn Handicap and the grade 1 $350,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap.  In his 4 year old debut Keen Ice will be using the Donn Handicap as a prep for the Dubai World Cup (DRF 2/1/16). You may recall Keen Ice will forever be known as the only horse to beat 2016 Triple Crown and Grand Slam winner American Pharoah at Saratoga in the Travers last summer.

At Delta Downs there’s a 2:15pm post and over $2,000,000 in purses for ten stakes races. It’s the Louisiana Premier highlighted by the $200,000 Championship.  Aqueduct offers two $100,000 races including the Gander for NY Breds and Fredd “Cappy” Capossela.  Santa Anita will not be out done offering four graded stakes highlighted by the grade 2 $500,000 San Antonio and grade 1 $300,000 Las Virgenes.

Before the world focuses attention Sunday evening on the big game, the decadent snacking, or the clever commercials the races will go on! Of course most tracks will have early posts this day. Note, Gulfstream will be 12 noon again, Santa Anita is 2:00pm, but so far Aqueduct is the regular 12:50pm. Check out the complete list of posts on the calendar page:      http://www.interbets.com/racing/otb/racing-schedule/ Aqueduct offers another race for NY Breds on Sunday and Santa Anita has another six figure graded stakes event, Palos Verdes.

Pssst!  Sunday is an “OTB Bettor Day” at all full service branches. Win free bets!

The complete weekend stakes races are posted by Thursday each week in branches and at Interbets.com. You can go to the “Upcoming Weekend Stakes” page now & each week at http://www.interbets.com/racing/otb/news/stakes-races/

~ Weekend highlights…

Woodbine has some timely pace finals this Friday with the Blizzard (f&m) and Snowshoe (open) for 3 & 4 yos. With our first chance of snow accumulations in the NY metropolitan area threatening the Aqueduct card and the $100,000 Busanda Stakes this Saturday we must consider the other 26 tracks racing this Saturday and the other eight big stakes events. Down in Florida our friends at Gulfstream will host the $100,000 H. Allen Jenkens for 4&up at 16furlongs on the Turf. Over on the west coast of Florida our Tampa friends will offer three big dirt stakes. The Tampa card includes the $100,000 Pasco for 3yos and $100,000 Gasparilla for 3yo fillies, and the $50,000 Wayward Lass for 4&up, f&m at 8.5f. Check out Sam Houston with four $50,000 stakes on Saturday. Santa Anita’s card is highlighted by the grade 2 $200,000 Santa Monica.

Please note, in anticipation of the storm Laurel has cancelled racing on both Saturday and Sunday.

Let’s assume the snow moves out as quickly as predicted and the Sunday card at Aqueduct won’t be affected. The Toboggan was scheduled for last Monday, but that card was cancelled due to subzero temps and high winds. Start your handicapping on Sunday’s grade 3 $150,000 Toboggan Stakes now.  There’s another 16 tracks racing on Sunday as well.

There’s a whopping 27 tracks to choose from this Saturday in January.

Harness fans remember Yonkers second Sunday matinee is January 17 and there will be advance wagering all day Saturday, January 16 on the Sunday card. Actual post time for Sunday is to be determined and is tentatively scheduled for 11:15a.m., before branches open.

~American Pharoah…
We can’t end the year without one more shout out of gratitude to the horse that did it all in 2015. Winning the Triple Crown after a 37 year drought was praise worthy enough. American Pharoah took it to a never before written page in history with the first ever Grand Slam of Racing by also winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic in the same year. Last Thursday NYRA announced that American Pharoah’s historic achievement was being honored as the “Sports Story of the Year” by the Associated Press. Thankfully AP’s story won out over the deflate-gate controversy that plagued the NFL.

~Breeders’ Cup wrap up…
We’ve all had the privilege of witnessing an historical event this past Saturday. American Pharoah and Victor Espinoza accomplished the first ever Grand Slam in racing history by winning all three of the Triple Crown races and the Breeders’ Cup Classic in the same year. Over-the-moon and elated are just a few words to describe the feeling this moment brings to so many “phans”. Wouldn’t you agree? Writing a congratulatory post just isn’t enough. Take a moment to read the many tweets and posts on social media @interbets @AmericanPharoah @BreedersCup @VictorEspinoza to experience the well-deserved appreciation and admiration being showered on American Pharoah and his connections. It’s simply “Phantastic”.

It was announced on the Breeders’ Cup website that next year’s Breeders’ Cup races will be back on the west coast at Santa Anita and then at Del Mar in 2017.

~123Racing Pick 6…
There’s a new wager in town! It’s NOT a Pick 6, but a whole new way to play. Compete against your friends and other bettors. It’s a contest bet to earn points and win cash. The top three players with the most points share the pot, 1st gets 60%, 2nd gets 30%, and 3rd gets 10%.  The designated 123Races are six consecutive races. That’s where the Pick 6 reference comes in. You pick one horse in each of the six races. This is a $2 bet. Your horse in each race earns points equal to the payout for Win, Place, or Show depending on where the horse finishes. That’s where the 123 comes in.

For each of the six races:  If your horse comes in first place then you earn points by adding the WIN payouts together for win, place. If your horse comes in second then you earn points by adding the PLACE payouts together. If your horse comes in third then you earn points equal to the SHOW payout.  Add all your points together to get your total points.

There’s a leaderboard for the whole pool so you can see standings throughout the races!  You’ll be assigned a unique, random nickname that’ll be posted on the leaderboard. See how you rank against players at other OTBs, account wagering sites, and at racetracks everywhere!

Note, if your horse does not finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd you earn no points for that race, BUT you’re not out yet! You can still win this thing from points earned in the other 5 races. If you played a longshot in another race or your show horse paid more than the other finishers you earn more points than the others for that race. You may still earn more points and win the pot.

Note, this is a separate bet, a separate pool. You don’t get the Pick 6 payout. You don’t get the win, place, show payouts in each race. You only earn points. After the sixth and final race in this contest the top three finishers get paid out from the 123Racing pool.  The highest points earner is the 1st place finisher and gets 60% of the pot. The next highest points earner is the 2nd place finisher and gets 30%, and 3rd gets 10%.

Follow the “123Racing” link at interbets.com for more details.

SATURDAY
Belmont offers two grade two $200,000 stakes, Athenia and Futurity. Finger Lakes also offers a $200,000 race, New York Breeders’ Futurity. The Woodbine BREEDERS’ CROWN ELIMINATIONS are $200,000 .  These may seem like the highlights of the weekend, but wait, there’s more!  Laurel has an early post at 12:15pm for Maryland Million Day.

“The 30th anniversary of the Jim McKay Maryland Million will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 17 at Laurel Park with the running of nine stakes, which attracted a total of 155 nominations.

The star of the $1 million showcase for horses sired by accredited Maryland stallions is once again expected to be Ben’s Cat, who is scheduled to make his sixth consecutive Maryland Million appearance. Bred, owned and trained by Hall of Famer King Leatherbury, Ben’s Cat was nominated for both the $100,000 Sprint, a six-furlong event over the main track that drew 12 nominations, and the mile $125,000 Turf, which attracted 23 nominations.

The son of Parker’s Storm Cat, who has three wins and two seconds in the five Maryland Million starts, stretched out to finish a close second in the Maryland Million Turf last year. The versatile Ben’s Cat has won $2.4 million and 30 of 51 starts, including 11 victories over dirt – his most recent being a 3 ½-length victory in the $200,000 Fabulous Strike at Penn National in his 2014 finale last November.”

The morning line favorite for the Hawthorne Derby at 4-1 is Saham from the barn of Brendan Walsh.  A runner that has been improving since breaking his maiden in February, Saham enters the Hawthorne Derby off a victory in the Grade 3 Jefferson Cup at Churchill on the turf on September 26.  Joe Rocco Jr. takes the return ride as Saham looks for his fourth win on the year.”

~ NY Weekend highlights…
Belmont always get top billing at Interbets and Catskill OTB. Belmont features the grade 3 $200,000 Nobel Damsel Saturday and two $125,000 races for NY Breds on Sunday. All three are Turf races so let’s enjoy these last few days of summer while we still can.

It may still be summer, but the Parx Racing first ever Fall Festival is in full swing and it’s the big one at Parx this Saturday with three graded stakes worth $2.3 million. Their revised early post is 12:25pm for Saturday. The g2 $1,000,000 Pennsylvania Derby is set to go off approximately 5:45pm and features a field of ten 3-year-olds including a fan favorite, Frosted.  Next up is another million dollar Parx race and another fan favorite, I’m A Chatterbox. I’m A Chatterbox headlines the field of eleven 3-year-old fillies in the grade 1 Cotillion Stakes. Kentucky Downs’ last hurrah on Saturday includes two $300,000 races. Laurel stays competitive with the grade 2 $400,000 Commonwealth Derby and grade 2 $250,000 Commonwealth Cup.

Later in the afternoon Charles Town has a special early 5:00pm post time for their big day. Charles Town will host the seventh annual “Race for the Ribbon” twelve race card featuring six stakes races including the grade 3 $350,000 Charles Town Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, race 11, post 10:25pm.

Mohawk Harness track offers over $2.6 million in purses Saturday evening including the $685,000 Canadian Trotting Classic Final (Race 10) and the $600,000 Maple Leaf Trot (Race 7) in addition to three more huge finals and the Milton eliminations. Mohawk will also offer a $100,000 guaranteed Pick 4.  Mohawk fans keep in mind that on Tuesday, September 29th Mohawk will offer a mandatory Jackpot Pick 6 payout.

The complete weekend stakes races are posted by Thursday each week in branches and at Interbets.com. You can go to the “Upcoming Weekend Stakes” page now & each week athttp://www.interbets.com/racing/otb/news/stakes-races/

~Harness spotlight on The Little Brown Jug…
“It’s coming! Harness Racing’s most prestigious race, the 70th renewal of the pacing classic, “the Little Brown Jug” will take place on Thursday, September 24”, boasts the Delaware County Fair.  The Jug meet will be offered Tuesday, September 22nd through 24th. Tuesday’s post is 1:00pm. The next two days will start at 11:00am. The Jugette will be held Wednesday, September 23 and the Jug is on the 24th.  As avid harness fans can tell you this meet is steeped in history, tradition and offers a very full three day meet. Remember in the very likely event there are more than 20 races on one day there will be two cards. Interbets and OTB will offer the second card which would have twenty races. In this case post time is of course “to be determined”.

~ NY Weekend highlights…
FRIDAY
The summer comes to its climax this weekend beginning this Friday. The “Midsummer Derby”, better known as the Travers Stakes, has combined events and turned this weekend into the Travers Festival. Saratoga kicks off the weekend with a Summer NY Showcase card Friday, August 28 including six stakes races worth $1,150,000 all for NY breds. OTB & Interbets will offer advance wagering all day Friday on the Travers Stakes as well.  Check out the MSG broadcast this Friday too for the   Saratoga Insider: Travers Preview Show & NY Racing Series: Empire. Check your local listing, times still to be determined as of the writing of this newsletter.

SATURDAY – TRAVERS STAKES DAY & MORE!
Admission tickets for Saturday’s races were already sold out on track at Saratoga even before American Pharoah confirmed he’d be there.  Now that it’s turned into #Pharoahtoga you won’t find an empty seat in the house. Now more than ever OTB & Interbets are your best bet to catch the complete live simulcast of the full Saratoga card and wagering on it all.  Watch history in the making with us or will Saratoga, “Graveyard of Champions”, live up to its reputation? Will American Pharoah join Whirlaway in the history books by winning the Triple Crown races and The Travers?!

The Travers Stakes highlights a star-studded Saturday card at the Spa with six graded stakes and three guaranteed pools, Race 1 Pick 5 $400,000, Race 6 Pick 6 $250,000, and Race 8 Pick 4 $1,000,000. There’s also NBC-TV coverage from 4pm – 6pm including live coverage of the Sword Dancer and Travers Stakes. Saratoga’s first post is 11:45am. OTB opens at 11:15am.

Five of the Saratoga stakes are Breeders’ Cup Challenge Races for the Turf (Sword Dancer), Sprint (Forego),Filly & Mare Sprint (Ballerina), Distaff (Personal Ensign), and of course the Classic (Travers).

This Saturday, August 29 is also the launch date of the all new Parx Racing Fall Festival. The Festival continues through October 20, 2015. The track will double purse levels for each day of the entire 32 live dates. The Festival is created around the two signature race events, the grade 2 $1,000,000 Pennsylvania Derby and the grade 1 Cotillion Stakes. Increased field size, enhanced betting interest, and plenty of Festival fans are anticipated.

Harness players will want to get in on the Grand Circuit action this Saturday evening. Yonkers Raceway features the Hudson Filly Final (6th race) & Lady Maud Final (7th race) as well as the two Yonkers Trot eliminations (races 4th and 5th races). The Messenger has only eight declarations so it will be a one event race set for Sept 5 along with the Yonkers Trot Final. Mohawk Raceway features elimination races this Saturday, August 28 for the Metro Pace, She’s A Great Lady, and the Canadian Pacing Derby.

SUNDAY
Sunday is no slouch with plenty of sizzling stakes including the $100,000 Smart N Fancy at Saratoga, Phillip H. Islen at Monmouth and Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar. Harness players will find NYSS and Excelsior races at Batavia Downs, two Grand Circuit races at Tioga Downs, and after hours use your Interbets account to wager on the $1,400,000 KYSS races at The Red Mile.
