Besides the 138th Preakness Saturday, May 18 there are thirty-six tracks racing Friday. OTB and Interbets.com are pleased to offer Canterbury Park thoroughbred racing for the first time ever this Friday. On Saturday we offer thirty-nine tracks. Betting opens at 10:00am Saturday. Belmont offers a guaranteed $300,000 late Pick 4 every Saturday. This Saturday is the grade 2 $200,000 VAGRANCY HANDICAP at Belmont. Harness fans get the AJ CUTLER MEMORIAL FINAL & MEADOWLANDS MATURITY Saturday at the Meadowlands.
Sunday’s feature event is the grade 3 $150,000 SELENE STAKES at Woodbine thoroughbreds. River Downs is back! Their track is under reconstruction so the meet will be held at Beulah Park. Peter Pan & Monmouth Saturday! Getting ready for Preakness and more!
Peter Pan is at Belmont Saturday. That’s a $200,000 grade 2 event. Remember every Saturday there’s also a $300,000 guaranteed late Pick 4 at Belmont.
Saturday is also opening day at Monmouth Park. Welcome back Monmouth! Monmouth’s opening day includes twelve races and 117 entries. First post is 12:50pm. The $500,000 grade 1 turf event The United Nations Stakes is scheduled for Saturday, July 6. The $1,000,000 Haskell is scheduled for Sunday, July 28. Haskell day post time is 12 noon. Save the dates!
Calder settled their horsemen issues as of May 9 and will be simulcasting with us once again. Welcome back Calder! Thistledown on the other hand gives no indication of resolving their horsemen issues to date. In other Ohio news River Downs will open May 19 at the Beulah Park Racetrack. Remington Park offers a nice card on Saturday with four stakes including the grade 2 $100,000 Oklahoma Challenge Championship. There are a total of thirty-seven tracks to choose from on Saturday and 26 tracks on Sunday at OTB and interbets.com. Clearly Spring has sprung!

Reports from Bloodhorse and Paulick Report say that Orb is handling things well and plans to run in the Preakness according to Conditioner Shug McGaughey. All eyes are on Churchill Downs. The excitement begins on Friday, May 3 with the Kentucky Oaks. The Oaks is Race 11 with an approximate 5:45pm post time. The field of eleven post positions and morning line odds are set with DREAMING OF JULIA as the 3-1 favorite in post 8, BEHOLDER 7-2 post 3, UNLIMITED BUDGET 7-2 post 4, MIDNIGHT LUCKY 9-2 post 2, and the list goes on…
Friday offers a special multi-day Oaks/Derby Double wager. Remember to bet this one as RACE 1 on a separate card. The Oaks/Woodford/Derby Pick 3 is another separate card multi-day special wager that should also be bet as RACE 1. Post time is of course 5:45pm since the first leg of each wager is the Kentucky Oaks. Friday is also a chance to Advance Bet the 139th Kentucky Derby. Bet the Derby all day!
Saturday offers the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The field is set with a field of twenty top thoroughbreds and one Also Eligible. There’s also a $1,000,000 Pick 6 at Churchill Downs. BELMONT IS BACK! YONKERS LEVY & MATCHMAKER FINALS! CA GOLD RUSH! LAST SPRING FLING HANDICAPPING CONTESTS THIS SUNDAY!
Belmont is back Friday, April 26 with a 12:50pm post for the three April dates. As of May 1st they have a 1:00pm post time. The grade 3 $150,000 WESTCHESTER is this Saturday. Churchill opens with a special evening 6:00pm post today and the last prep to earn Derby points (20-8-4-2) in the Derby Trial. Hawthorne offers six Illinois bred stakes races and $625,000 purses. It’s also Hollywood’s opening weekend featuring the CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH with eight stakes and over $1,000,000 in purses. Even Turf Paradise offers five stakes this Saturday. A total of thirty-five tracks will be offered on Saturday!

~ Yonkers in the spotlight…
FINALS SATURDAY! PURSES INCREASE AGAIN!
Saturday is a big NY Harness day at YONKERS! It’s the 26th edition of the $450,000 GEORGE MORTON LEVY MEMORIAL PACING SERIES FINAL, race 10 post time 10:35pm. The $100,000 Levy Consolation is race 9. FOILED AGAIN (with Yannick Gingras) & ANNIE’SWESTERNCARD (with Matt Kakaley) both begin with 9-5 morning line odds. There are eight entries in the Levy. Last year the Levy was won by Atochia driven by Ron Pierce with a time of 1:52.0.
Yonkers doesn’t stop there. Saturday is also the $285,000 BLUE CHIP MATCHMAKER FINAL. The Matchmaker also has eight entries including CAMILLE (with Gingras) & ROCKLAMATION (with Brennan) both with 8-5 early odds. The $75,000 Consolation is race six. Rocklamation won this one last year with a time of 1:51.3 and Yannick Gingras driving according to the press release. Best wishes to all in both finals!
Yonkers announced more purse increases this week! Beginning Monday April 29 purse hikes of 10 percent for claiming races and 20 percent for conditioned races. Keep in mind just about one month ago Yonkers increased all overnight events ten percent across-the-board! Way to go Yonkers!

$750,000 ILLINOIS DERBY! $1,500,000 CHARLES TOWN CLASSIC! LEXINGTON IS A DERBY PREP! HAPPY BIRTHDAY OTB FREE BETS & MORE CONTESTS SUNDAY!
The Coolmore Lexington at Keeneland this Saturday is a lesser Derby Prep as it earns 20-8-4-2 points to the top four finishers. The field is mostly set, but it may be a matter of just a few points that will make all the difference to who’s in and who’s out. The last chance to earn those precious points will be next Saturday, April 27 in the Derby Trial at Churchill.
This Saturday is the grade 3 $750,000 ILLINOIS DERBY at Hawthorne. As we all know the Illinois Derby is “out” as far as a Derby Prep, but it’s still a big race and the race must go on! In addition Hawthorne offers three more big stakes this day, SIXTY SAILS, SANTA BARBARA HANDICAP, and SAN SIMEON STAKES. Saturday is also the grade 2 $1,500,000 CHARLES TOWN CLASSIC in addition to five more stakes at that track. New Kentucky Derby Points system…
Phase one: “Kentucky Derby Prep Season” 19 races
September 2012 – February 2013 in addition to England’s Royal Lodge at New Market.
Top 4 finishers: 10-4-2-1 points
Phase two: “Kentucky Derby Championship Series” 17 races.
Part 1: 8 races, 50-20-10-5 points to the top four finishers.
Part 2: 7 races, 100-40-20-10
Part 3: 2 races, 20-8-4-2 , a Wild Card opportunity for points.
Top 20 point earners get in with 4 also eligibles.
Dead Heat: The horses in a dead-heat will add the total points and equally divide the points between them.
Tie Breakers: Total points tie breakers will be earnings in non-restricted stakes races.
The KENTUCKY OAKS will follow a similar points system.

Road to the Kentucky Derby…
2013 Derby Prep races have started with a new points system in place for horses to earn their way into the big race from 36 stakes races overall. The Road is divided into two phases. Phase one, the “Kentucky Derby Prep Season” consists of nineteen designated races between September and February in addition to England’s Royal Lodge raced at New Market. The top four finishers receive 10-4-2-1 points accordingly. Phase two, the “Kentucky Derby Championship Series” consists of seventeen races. The Championship Series is further broken down into three parts. The first eight events earn 50-20-10-5 points to the top four finishers. The second part consists of seven races worth 100-40-20-10. The final part gives horses one last chance to earn needed points of 20-8-4-2. The final part is a Wild Card opportunity to earn points in the LEXINGTON at Keeneland and The CLIFF’S EDGE DERBY TRIAL at Churchill. The top twenty get in with four additional also eligibles. The horses in a dead-heat will add the total points and equally divide the points between them. In the end the total points tie breakers will be earnings in non-restricted stakes races.
