Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – THURSDAY, February 26, 2015 at Aqueduct
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A: A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (1) Aleander (A) closed strongly while 4-wide last time in step up to this level. He has hit the board in six straight races and 7 of 11, but is usually plagued by the wide journeys. Maybe he can work out a trip from the rail here, but it would be nice if he could show some early interest. (6) Cosmo Blue stumbled leaving the gate last time in return from layoff for Pletcher who figures to have him ready here. (4) Retire Fifty Five has hit the board in five straight and just missed last time. (5) Zingarelli appears to be a live first-time starter.

4th race – (4) Drum Roll is up from Gulfstream off the Englehart claim and we have to figure he has faced tougher competition in sunny Florida. (7) First Bid has been working steadily for return and drops way down to all-time low. (8) War Hero loves the inner and just looks fastest of this bunch. (6) Awesome Lute drops to all-time low off two straight wins.

5th race – (2) Nonna Jo had a rough start last time against a tougher field and figures to run back closer to maiden-win form as she faces a softer field. (7) Evrybdymstgetstonz has been off since October, but faces softest field of her career and is in for a tag as well. (3) Graeme Crackers drops to an all-time low off a decent stakes effort and a bullet drill. (1) Take Issue steps up here off an improved effort in second career start.

7th race – (1) Chasing Bubbles (A) deserves a look at expected price as he drops back into the claim ranks after the terrible stumble at the start last time. (6) Final Chapter may be the one to beat if you think he can duplicate the maiden win. (3) Deficit Hawk figures to rebound adding blinkers while dropping down off a sharp bullet work. (5) R Cardinal One (A) made up about 10 lengths in the stretch last time and even though he is in much tougher, the 20-1 morning line draws our attention because of the late turn of foot last time.

Best bet: Aleander (2ndBest value: Nonna Jo (5th); Chasing Bubbles (7th)

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – FRIDAY, February 27, 2015 at Aqueduct
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A: A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (6) First Ranger (A) has been knocking on the door his last two starts and is a reasonable value play here off a career-best speed figure. (7) March Too never had a chance last time after bumpy start and returns to level where Rice claimed two starts back out of a race in which he romped by 6 lengths. (5) Mach Seven is a horse we have followed for several starts and has a shot in this race if he can finally work out a decent trip. (1) Money Machine just missed two starts back in rare try at this lower level.

2nd race – (2) In Spite of Mama (A) moved forward nicely to post career-best speed fig last time and might have won the race if she hadn’t needed to alter course at the 1/8th pole before making a strong late bid.  Should be ready to roll here third off a layoff. (1) Golden Gem looks like the one to beat dropping down after a strong second in overnight stakes. (4) Jules N Rome has hit the board in four of her 5 starts. (6) Jackie Black broke her maiden by an eye-popping 35 lengths last time, but that was in a maiden claimer so we’ll see what she can do here as she goes out for excellent barn.

6th race – (9) Full of Mine (C) just missed after a wide rally last time and just a slight move forward is probably enough to win this race. (2) Ziggy Moondust likes to hit the board and turnback to a sprint here may be the winning move. (11) Old Friend is essentially making his career debut and may be better than these. (1) Forever Utopia has plenty of chances, but we’ll give her one more in a weak field since she does usually contend.

7th race – (3) Lulu Rocks (A) is the one to beat entering off a career-best effort. (5) Decesion Point (C) was foiled by a terrible start last time and it isn’t unreasonable for us to expect his best here third off a layoff. (10) Perfect Disco is 3 for 8 lifetime with 2 recent wins outside of strictly NY-bred company. (9) Groupthink tailed off his last two starts and perhaps the freshening and recent cut are the answer for Chad Brown. (2) Shinnecock Bay finally broke through last time and gets interesting upgrade in the saddle for this one.

Best bets: Full of Mine (6th); Lulu Rocks (7th); Best value: First Ranger (1st); In Spite of Mama (2nd)
