Today’s NY Hot List races to watch — WEDNESDAY, July 23, 2014 at Saratoga
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A: A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

4th race – (4) Shot to Win (A) takes an interesting drop into open N3L claimer after winning a NY-bred N1x allowance race with game effort. (7) Santa Elf may be the one to beat dropping into claimers off two best efforts of his career. (6) Ithastobegeorge goes out third off a layoff for new barn and after two excellent runs against tougher competition. (1) Wild Finish might be big overlay getting a 7-lb. weight break and moving off the turf which he didn’t like last start.

6th race – (1) Spinit to Winit (B) righted the ship last start following rare clunker and should compete once again. And if you like her you get entrymate (1a) Artemis Agrotera dropping out of Grade I stakes. (6) Champagne Ruby has underachieved in state-bred stakes and could fare better today against mostly lesser competition. (8) Hot Splash drops back into NY-bred company after a pair of excellent races in unrestricted allowance company. (3) What the Frost is also returning to state-bred ranks after decent tries vs. tougher and this one likes the 7-furlong distance.

7th race – (6) Time for Harlan (B) has improved in last two starts and actually had a late lead last time after a 6-wide rally. (8) Winner’s Legacy (C) equaled a career top last time and had to alter course late when getting up for the place last time out. (7) All Star Kitten figures to be a tough customer as she drops out of the MSW ranks. (1) Treaty Oak is 0 for 8 and also drops in first time for a tag while going out for a barn that wins better than 25 percent of the time when taking this class drop.

8th race – (2) Haverhill (A) was getting to the winner last time after a 5-wide move, but ran out of real estate. Adds a 1/16th here and that last race was one of his best efforts from a speed figure perspective. (10)Love to Run (A) returns to this low level and turns back a furlong after leading nearly the entire way last time before being caught at the wire. (1) Go Appeal takes a tumble in class off two straight wins and claim by Kenneally. (7) Bemata has a win and a third in three Saratoga starts and drops in for a tag after several solid tries in allowance ranks.

Best Bets: Spinit to Winit (6th); Haverhill (8thBest Value: Shot to Win (4th); Time for Harlan (7th)
