Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – FRIDAY, May 24, 2013 at Belmont Park – Keep scrolling Saturday Picks below too!

By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                  B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (3) Ballybrit (a B last time) takes a big step up in class although he did race in open company last time and returns to state breds here. All that said he woke up on turf last time and we’ll look for improvement on that effort at a price. (2) Infiltrator (D) has had two rough trips and should be better here for Bill Mott. (6) Captain Gaughen comes in off a long layoff, but the recent work signals his readiness especially if the race stays on the grass. (1) Shortcoming has been solid since switching to the turf and offers a bit of value.

5th race – (3) Lawless Miss (D) turns back a furlong after leading last time until the final yards. (7) First Whippoorwill is training well as she returns from a layoff. She cuts back in distance and don’t be fooled by her last two starts as they were marred by trouble. (9) Stella Girl returns from Florida where she stepped up her game over the winter. (10) Strategic Missile could be ready for a big effort third off the layoff.

6th race – (5) Rapid Burn (A) has been away for a while, but drops in first time for a tag. Has run very well against tougher and recent bullet work is encouraging. (4) Gridiron Great (C) has moved forward in two successive starts and is likely to do so again. (6) Horse Latitudes (B) has outrun his odds last two starts and a little improvement could go a long way. (1) Ella’s Kitten (D) drops in for a tag and is eligible to improve in second start for Chad Brown. (3)Captain Easy (D) steps up off a long layoff and has yet to run of turf.

9th race – (2) Sneaky Freud (D) has been the victim of two horrible trips including a wide journey throughout last time.  Goes turf-to-dirt for Pletcher while dropping in for a tag. (4) Private Irving A had three quality starts until an inexplicable 12th last time.  Returns to the dirt and should be a major player in this one. (5) Ten Ed (D) returns to the Belmont main track where he ran easily the best race of his short career. (7) Shock Me Kaz has been knocking on the door in two starts and takes a slight drop in class.

Best bet: Sneaky Freud (9th); Best value: Ballybrit (2nd); Lawless Miss (5th)

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – SATURDAY, May 25, 2013 at Belmont Park

By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A : A preferred horse to watch                  B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (10) Blue Creek (a B last time) is an MTO entrant and is likely to run with plenty of rain in the forecast. Have to like his chances as he relishes a wet track and this distance. (8) Political Justice wants to run on the turf, but is the only other horse in here with multiple wins on a wet track, and his career-best race came on a muddy Belmont track last October. The Jacobson entry of (1) Roman Invasion and (1a) Equivocation have some limited success over the off going. (11) Afternoon Treat is the other MTO and worth a look assuming the race is moved off the grass.

4th race – (6) Leilani’s Ticket (D) looks a step or two faster than this field, but he rarely leaves the friendly confines of New York-bred company. (2) All Jonesy flopped last time against tougher at Penn National, but should like return to home turf and his win came on an off track for double the claim tag. (7) Brother Bob takes a big class drop for Linda Rice. (4) Harley is a longshot, but has a win in the mud to his credit.

6th race – (1a) Dighton (D) took some money last time dropping out of Grade III company, but stumbled badly leaving the gate.  Claimed out of that race by Jacobson and drops a notch here which should help. If you like him you get competent entry-mate (1) In Todd We Trust as well. (9) Quorum drops to an all-time low and rarely runs a poor race. (5) Cactus City Road could be dangerous on an off track. (3) Epic Legend improved nicely at this level last time and goes out 3rd off the layoff.

10th race – (14) Asset Inflation (C) ran a huge 2nd in career debut for Chad Brown and returns here as an MTO entry and figures to run. (2) Here Comes Tommy (C) took some late money last time and should be a major player regardless of racing surface. (4) Greeley Pack (B) is similar in that he wants to try the turf, but has run his two best races over an off track. (3) Midnight Monarch (C) made a nice forward move when switching to the turf last time.

Best bet: Asset Inflation (10th); Best value: Blue Creek (1st)
