Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – THURSDAY, October 30, 2014 at Aqueduct
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A: A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (4) Gold Shield (A) took a major step forward last start and lost by a nose to horse that is making a Breeders’ Cup start this weekend. (5) Aldrin (C) showed similar improvement last time in his second start and was a very game second after a stretch duel. (1a) Frosted has posted a pair of strong seconds in short career and should factor again while entrymate (1) Tradesman is a threat making second career start. (6) Gunlock may be a live firster going out for Pletcher.

3rd race – (3) Mop Head (A) was blocked when trying to rally in the stretch last time.  Switches to dirt and only start on that surface was a stellar second in a sprint at Belmont last summer in which he posted one of his top speed figures. (5) Sir Bond should rebound from a rough outing as connections return him to N3L condition. (6) Shore Runner drops to an all-time low and is better on the dirt than it might appear. (1) Indian Nobility and (1a) Big Lute comprise formidable entry for Jacobson.

4th race – (6) The Frood Dude (a B last time) was bumped off his game at the start last time, but ran a race two back that would make him very competitive here so we’ll take flyer at 10-1 on the morning line. (2) Luv Dakota Skye (B) dropped to this level last time out of MSW ranks, but was forced off the turf by the rain so we like his chances here on the class drop assuming the race remains on the grass. (9) Hushhushmushmush keeps burning money, but still seems faster than these as he makes rare start for a tag. (3) Bold Senator should be able to compete in state-bred company. (14) Gu Gu Beans has big chance if he draws in off the AE list.

7th race – (2) Voodoo Tales (C) drops in out of a stakes try and an effort similar to his previous two starts would make him extremely tough to beat. (7) Expression (A) has run very well at this level or above and might have won last time if a rider-less horse hadn’t bothered him in the stretch. (6) Alwaysthinkinofyou hasn’t trailed often in short career and may get toughest test today. (1) Trail Walker(A) may be in a bit over her head certainly needed last one off a freshening and since it was only her second race in seven months.

Best bets: Gold Shield (1st); Voodoo Tales (7th);  Best value: Mop Head (3rd); The Frood Dude (4th)

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – FRIDAY, October 31, 2014 at Aqueduct
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A: A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

4th race – (4) Arctic Ocean (a C last time) improved to a career-best speed fig last time when switching to the turf and looks like the horse to beat off that effort. (9) Kibble showed similar improvement last race when dropping in for a tag and figures to compete once again. (7) Twist ‘n Bake endured a brutal trip last time with a bump at the start and wide rally so we’ll toss that one and look for a better showing as she runs first time for a tag. (12) Summer Forever may wake up as she adds blinkers and drops out of MSW ranks for the first time.

5th race – (1) Cay to Pomeroy (C) was claimed out of an open company race by barn that is sharp when running back the first time. Recent races make him very competitive with this bunch. (5) Hurry Up Alan was excellent in dirt sprint two back and barn thrives on surface switch. (4) Goodtolook gets a weight break and could be dangerous on the turnback. (9) Jeter may wake up on drop to this level.

6th race – (4) Lady Luciano (A) enters off her career best and this appears to be a field she can handle. (3) Queen Corey was claimed out of her debut win by Linda Rice and was flattered when place and show horses from that day came back to win their next starts. (9) Winner’s Legacy has competed with this group of late. (6) Stay in Front was claimed by Maker last time and has room to move forward off that maiden win and just the two career starts.

9th race – (6) No Nukes (D) was a little lethargic last time off a freshening, but we are expecting better as he drops a couple notches. (5) Campion Lane ran a strong race last time against open company. (2) Patrollikeachampion may wake up trying dirt for the first time. (3) American Hero takes yet another class drop in hopes of a better showing – which dirt may provide.

Best bets: Arctic Ocean (4th); Lady Luciano (6th); Best value: Cay to Pomeroy (5th)
