Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – SUNDAY October 19, 2014 at Belmont Park

By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:

A: A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

2nd race – (10) Pisco Bliss (a D last time) is eligible to improve in what is essentially his second career start for Chad Brown. (4) Collinito drops several notches coming off a lengthy layoff and he did cross the finish line first in his last start, but remains a maiden since he was DQ’d for interference in the lane. (7) Bold Runner has a big chance since we can toss his last race which came off the turf and we see the excellent pair of turf routes he ran just before that. (8) Double Whammy merits some attention first off the claim for Jacobson.

3rd race – (6) Kate Is a Ten (B) drops a couple notches coming off her best-ever race and – unbelievably – we’ll tab this 1 for 22 filly as the horse to beat. (2) Pitched enters off the Parx maiden-breaker and with just 7 starts she has more room to improve than most of her rivals. (5) Lemon and Honey drops to an all-time low and gets a nice break in weight over this field. (1) Andromeda’s Risk should be better than last time on a fast track.

5th race – (7) All in Fun (D) has been working spectacularly since her sprint debut and should improve stretching out based on those three bullet works and Tapit pedigree. (8) Doukas (C) has come up just short in two starts and has a great chance to break through in third career start for Rudy R. (5) Tumminia should rebound moving back on the turf after the debacle in the slop last time. (2) Lucky Song looks like a live firster for Chad Brown. (13) Tela needs a scratch to draw in, and would be making third career start off two decent tries for the solid Michael Matz barn. (14) Midnight Citra (A) is a main-track-only entrant.

10th race – (4) As Well (B) goes out third off a layoff and took a huge step forward last time. Similar move in this race may get him into the winner’s circle at a price. (3) Keen Katana (B) gave a pretty good account of herself last time in debut against winners and she seems talented, but can’t seem to string together races without a layoff line separating them. (5) Lady Kreesa owns the fastest speed figures and the Donk barn is hot. (7) Funky Munky Fever may be in a little tough, but could get favorable pace setup. (2) Willow U ran well enough in her last two starts to be competitive here.

Best bet: Kate Is a Ten (3rd); All in Fun (5th); Best value: Pisco Bliss (2nd); As Well (10th)
