Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – SUNDAY May 28, 2017 at Belmont Park
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:
A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

4th race – (3) Jegos Fire (A) put in a sneaky good effort last time after going airborne at the start. After recovering, he was forced into a 5-wide rally and came up just a length short. (4) Rate for Me drops into claimers for the first time and would be tough with Saratoga form. (1) Baseline just missed last time on drop into claim ranks. (5) Consumerconfidence goes out for excellent trainer/jockey combo.

7th race – (2) Altar Boy (C) veered in at the start last time from the rail post and then rushed up into contention, and looked like he had some rally in him at the ¼ pole but was shut off in traffic. (10) Montclair likes to run long and barn is red hot of late. (4) Indebted steps up in class, but is 2 for 2 over the Belmont grass and we like the upgrade in the saddle. (6) Closing Bell is a contender on return to 2016 form.

8th race – (2) Splashtastic (C) freaked to a 101 speed figure last time and still ran second.  Even some regression may still be enough for victory in this spot. (7) Destin has been away since the Travers last August, but as runnerup in the Belmont last year and merits a look for Pletcher who can get a horse ready off a layoff. (4) Touchofstarquality is also coming in off a long hiatus, but loves Belmont and has run well off the bench. (6) Majestic Affair is another one coming in here off an extended break, but we trust Chad Brown to have him ready.

9th race – (5) Snowfly (B) was squeezed at the start and needed a race after a long hiatus, and have to think he will like turf over a sloppy main track. (6) Astounding was just that two back on the turf and should be better than his last start which came on the inner. (10) Surtap figures to improve when trying turf. (3) Balfe’s Corner needed that last race and just may surprise.

Best bets: Spalshtastic (8th); Snowfly (9thBest value: Jegos Fire (4th); Altar Boy (7th)

(2) Benevolence A on 5/6 5 Just missed last start
(4) Cause for Surprise C on 4/8 5 May be the one to beat off last two

(2) Splashtastic B on 4/23 8 Should be sharper than rivals off 101 fig

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – MONDAY, May 29, 2017 at Belmont Park
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:
A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

3rd race – (1) Bobby Fab (B) was no match for the winner last time, but beat the show horse by 13 sand we like this trainer with second-time maidens. (7) Giant Expectations is the horse to beat off the long list of better speed figures, but is making first East Coast start. (4) Sicilia Mike is 0 for 12, but numbers are better than most of these rivals. (2) Great Blake may be a live first-time starter.

7th race – (8) Sal the Turtle (C) may offer some value with 10-1 morning-line odds. Has endured rough trips last two starts and has hit the board in all five career attempts. (1) T Loves a Fight is a threat off last three starts. (6) Syndergaard and (5) Bobby on Fleek look talented, but recent starts give us pause to take them for the top spot at short odds.

8th race – (8) Weekend Hideaway (D) is 4 for 7 lifetime over a wet track and 11 for 15 lifetime at Belmont Park, including several excellent tries over the off going. (3) Eye Luv Lulu (A) has won 7 of 12 starts and those seven wins are 78% of his total victories. (4) Hit It Once More (B) has been away since October when flopping in fall version of this race, but has two good works coming in and could turn it around if the track dries out a bit. (10) Empire Dreams (B) has also been off since December, but has hit the board in 8 of 9 Belmont starts with three wins.

9th race – (1) Macagone (A) won’t run if the race is off the turf, but rain is supposed to stop around noon and NYRA just may try hard to keep this featured turf stakes on the grass. If so, this guy likes a little give under his feet and the rail is perfect for his front-running style. (10) Kharafa (A) is a wily veteran rounding back into form who also likes the off going and has hit the board in 17 of 21 starts on BEL grass courses. (3) Get Jets (B) was stellar as a 2YO in state-bred dirt stakes and has recently shown he can turf as well. (7) Mark My Style (B) enters off a career-best effort and has also taken a liking to the Belmont grass. (9) Fox Rules (A) is main-track-only entrant and has hit the board in 8 of last 11 dirt tries.

Best bets: Weekend Hideaway (8th); Macagone (9th); Best value: Bobby Fab (3rd); Sal the Turtle (7th)
