Belmont Park opens Friday April 28, 2017!

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – FRIDAY, April 28, 2017 at Belmont Park
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:
A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

5th race – (1) Marriage Fever (A) drops down a notch while in good form and showed improvement last two vs. tougher. (7) Souper Knight (B) goes out first off the claim for 38 percent barn. (2) Praetereo drops down to most recent win level and runs his best at Belmont. (6) Old Upstart drops down off a win and exits a race in which he bested this bunch.

6th race – (11) North Eight Street (B) has posted top two speed figures in turf races and we can expect improvement in second race off a long layoff. (6) Fabulous Lady has been running well outside of New York and now faces state-bred rivals for the first time. (10) Catcher in the Sky goes out for barn that does well with first-time turfers. (4) Shimmering Moon is interesting making first start on the grass. (13) Bahnano (B) needs a scratch to draw in and has posted a pair of bullets in preps for this start.

7th race – (10) Jc’s Shooting Star (B) got a chance to stretch her legs last time out and 2 of her 3 career wins have come on the Belmont turf. (5) Take These Chains has been away for a long time, but is 2 for 2 in short career and Chad Brown merits a ton of respect. (6) King’s Ghost is an interesting shipper for Brad Cox. (12) Thundering Sky cuts back in distance and gets a weight break. (11) Cover Song enters off a 6-month hiatus, but first start for Clement-Irad merits a long look.

9th race – (3) Frost Wise (B) cuts back a furlong after sharp debut and though she may not be much of a turf horse on paper, she has that in common with other contenders in here. (1) Dream a Little (A) overcame a bumpy start to rally strongly for the place last time. (12) Leah’s Dream (B) was sharp in return off a long hiatus last time and we like the jockey upgrade. (9) Hollywood Cat (B) adds blinkers off wide trip in OK debut.

Best bets: Marriage Fever (5th); Best value: North Eight Street (6th); Jc’s Shooting Star (7th); Frost Wise (9th)

Today’s NY Hot List races to watch – SATURDAY, April 29, 2017 at Belmont Park
By Bob Ehalt and Shawn Rychling

Hot List Key:
A:
A preferred horse to watch                         B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* – 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.

1st race – (1) Killybegs Captain (B) steps up a notch after career-best effort. (4) Dhamaan has hit the board in all four starts and equals our top pick with best, last-race speed figure. (2) On a Positive Note has been working well in preps for career debut. (6) Z Town faded in debut try, but should have some fitness for the return.

4th race – (6) Wanztbwicked (C) rallied for the place in career debut last time despite a 3-wide journey and only the favorite has run faster. (3) Storm Team has yet to win, but has hit the board in all three tries and looks fastest on paper. (9) El Talento has been away since last July in Saratoga, but is eligible to improve. (7) Flyoff should move forward off decent debut.

5th race – (6) Admiral Blue (B) may be the one to beat dropping out of stakes while sporting impressive speed figures in last three starts. (5) Fearless Dragon (B) beat some dirt horses in his last start and may be a value play in this spot. (2) Hard Study posted career-top speed figure last time and that came in the mud. (4) River Date has hit the board in 8 of 9 starts.

7th race – (6) Barbie on a Budget (B) just walked out of the gate in the debut, but recovered to rally for the show and forward move puts her squarely in contention. (6) Downtown at Noon (B) has finished second three straight times, but adds blinkers here and note winner from last start won its next race. (9) Kinky Sox goes turf-to-dirt for barn that can win with a price horse from time to time. (2) Sunset Ridge merits a look as first-time starter for Chad Brown.

Best bets: Killybegs Captain (1st); Barbie on Budget (7th) Best value: Wanztbwicked (4th); Admiral Blue (5th)
